They might tell you about the independent businesses they’ve discovered, the sports club their kids go to or the people who quietly keep their communities going.
They might also tell you the town centre feels different to what it was.
Too many young people with nowhere to go. An ageing population and fewer working professionals in the town centre. A nightlife that’s largely disappeared. A town full of good independent coffee shops, yet we’re still queuing for the big chains.
So what happened?
That’s what Heard. Darlington wants to explore.
We’ll tell the stories of the people building businesses, running clubs, making things and making a difference. We’ll talk honestly about what’s not working, ask awkward questions and look for the people trying to fix things.
Sometimes we’ll celebrate Darlington. Sometimes we’ll challenge it.
But we’ll always be interested.
Because Darlington isn’t its history. It’s what we’re making of it now.
